The Sun tarot card explained

The Sun from the Turbo Tarot deck
The Sun

Finally, a little sunshine

Some days, things just click. You finish a project you're proud of, spend a great afternoon with people you love, or wake up feeling surprisingly good about where your life is heading.

The Sun is that kind of card. 🌅

Numbered XIX (19) in the Major Arcana, The Sun represents joy, clarity, confidence, and the pleasure of appreciating what's going well. It can be easy to overlook those moments. We're so used to thinking about the next goal, the next problem, or the next thing on our to-do list that we forget to enjoy what we've already achieved.

The Sun encourages you to notice the good stuff without immediately wondering what could go wrong. Embrace that positivity. And no, it doesn't mean every problem in your life has magically disappeared. You can have a lovely day and still have a pile of laundry waiting at home. 🌞

What makes The Sun such a happy-looking card?

In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, a smiling child rides a white horse beneath a huge shining sun. The child carries a red banner, and sunflowers rise behind a wall in the background.

The sun itself represents warmth, life, and clarity. The child suggests openness and simple enjoyment, without the self-consciousness we often develop as adults. The white horse can symbolize vitality and movement, while the sunflowers suggest growth and abundance.

Compared with The Moon, the previous card, everything here feels bright and visible. There's no winding path disappearing into the darkness. The scene is right in front of you. That's one of The Sun's central ideas: sometimes things are clearer than we allow ourselves to believe.

The Sun in your love life

Not every love reading needs to involve a complicated emotional dilemma. Sometimes you're happy with someone, you enjoy spending time together, and that's worth celebrating.

The Sun can encourage you to appreciate the fun and openness in a relationship. When was the last time you did something together just because it sounded enjoyable?

If you're single, the card might be about feeling comfortable with yourself. Dating can be exciting, but there's also a lot to be said for enjoying your life as it is instead of treating being single as a problem to solve. Netflix and chill by yourself, take yourself on a date, or you know... It's nice to get into bed knowing you're content with yourself. A partner is just the cherry on top—that's a nice mindset to be in.

Four of Cups from the Turbo Tarot deck
Four of Cups

It's a very positive card, but let's look at an example of a card pairing. You draw 3 cards on our site, Turbo Tarot. Let's say you get The Sun as what to focus on and the Four of Cups as where you are now. The Four of Cups can represent boredom or feeling emotionally disengaged.

Maybe you've been so caught up in what your relationship is missing that you've stopped noticing the small things that make it good. The Sun might encourage you to reconnect with those moments. Embrace the monotony and find light in it, no matter how cheesy that sounds.

Also, it's a 3-card draw, so you'll also get a card that highlights what to avoid, which could also be very interesting. For instance, the Three of Swords signals heartbreak, but if you draw it, then the cards are suggesting you stray away from pain and just dig deep into what made you happy in the first place. The Moon, as what to avoid, means to detour from confusion in your relationship. And if you get something like The Magician, a card that tells you that you have all the tools to fix your problems, then maybe it's time for you to stop thinking about how to improve yourself and learn something new to fix your love life, and simply find happiness in the simplicity of it all. It's all nuanced!

The Sun and professional confidence

The Sun is asking you to feel content at the workplace. We as a society are very stressed. We work and work and work. We do one thing and we start the next. And then we have to worry about promotion, workplace politics, and how to climb that invisible corporate ladder.

The Sun might encourage you to acknowledge your achievements instead of brushing them aside.

It can also be about clarity. Perhaps you've finally figured out what kind of work suits you, or you've found a team where you feel comfortable speaking up and sharing ideas.

Six of Wands from the Turbo Tarot deck
Six of Wands

Here's an example: The Sun as where you are now and the Six of Wands as what to focus on. The Six of Wands is associated with recognition and success. Together, the cards could suggest you've done something worth being proud of, and maybe it's time to share it. Update your portfolio, tell your manager what you've accomplished, or simply accept the compliment.

Also, focus on things outside of your actual work at the workplace. When was the last time you and your colleagues tried out a new lunch spot? Are you meeting new people at work, or are you just focused on deliveries? Humans are social creatures; take a step back and think about what would fulfill you! After all, we spend most of our time at work (sadly).

Enjoy a little clarity with Turbo Tarot

Sometimes the most useful reflection isn't about fixing something. It's about recognizing what's already going well. That's The Sun. ☀️
